The course Ed 308 (Curriculum Design & Assessment for the e-Class), provided some great insight on what is required to have a high quality online or e-Classroom environment. Throughout the course, we got hands-on practice designing and developing an online course. We also learned in depth some of the details associated with a high-quality course. The course focuses on the application and interpretation of research, theory and standards-based effective practices used to design, develop and evaluate distance and blended education experiences. We examined different aspects of online teaching (asynchronous communication, facilitation and feedback) based on research, critically evaluated existing social media and online resources, and we applied their learning to online content design. I leave the course with a completed online course module that includes content specific activities and an understanding of how to create lessons and assessments.
The course supplied some in depth information pertaining to the ADDIE model. The ADDIE is a five-phase design model: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. These five phases represent a dynamic, flexible guideline for building effective training and performance support tools. Educators, instructional designers, and training developers find this approach very useful because having stages clearly defined facilitates implementation of effective training tools. This course has supplied me with a deeper knowledge of what it takes to build an online course effectively and efficiently.
Here is a great video for more information on the ADDIE model and the video also explains exactly what our class accomplished in ED 308!
